Dec. 14th [Card Captor Sakura] Morning News

Title: Morning News
Day/Theme: Dec. 14th - I love you in different languages
Series: Card Captor Sakura
Character/Pairing: Sakura Kinomoto x Syaoran Li
Rating: PG

To Sakura, oversleeping and having to rush through her morning activities had always been part of her routine. There were times, however, when she could make an effort and wake up early, as long as the occasion was special.

For the past half week, the girl had diligently gone to bed at a proper time so that she wouldn’t ignore Kero-chan’s desperate attempts to wake her up the following day. There was, of course, good reason for that; Syaoran had posted a response to her last letter, and it was supposed to arrive at her house any time now, so she not only was doing this out of eagerness to hear from him again, but also as safety measures. Who knows what Touya would do to her correspondence when he spotted Syaoran’s name as the sender, anyway?

That morning hadn’t been much different; she had basically stormed across the kitchen and wished a hurried good morning to her father and the picture of her mother, speeding up towards the mailbox before Touya could even make it down the stairs. This time she’d had better luck, though; a small giggle came forth and her eyes lit up once they finally stumbled upon the desired envelope. Beaming (as well as inhaling deeply so to recollect her breath), Sakura went back in the house, now at her usual pace.

“It arrived, it arrived!” She chanted while taking her seat around the breakfast table.

“You’ve got mail, Sakura-san?” Fujitaka asked, his usual, kind smile plastered on his face. “You were expecting this for a while now, weren’t you?”

“Hai!” She nodded. “It finally came in!”

“I bet this came from that brat,” Touya sneered and smirked at his little sister. “Why else would kaijuu wake up so early by herself?”

The smile soon vanished from her features, being replaced by a much more infuriated expression. “I’m not kaijuu! And he’s not a brat, either! Syaoran-kun is working very hard on something important to him, and he will come back once that’s over with!”

“He might be working hard, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a brat, you know.”

“Onii-chan!” She glared at him and sighed, deciding it was best to ignore his comments until he acted nicer – which might take a while, of course. In the meantime, she opened the envelope and carefully unfolded the piece of paper she found inside.

Green hues went from side to side as fast as possible while still retaining all the needed information. As usual, there was barely anything new in his letters; he always asked Sakura to keep taking good care of herself while he was away, and his words often spoke of his wish to see her again, as well as of reassurance that everything was running well. That was mostly all she needed to know – that he was safe, and that they would be reunited soon enough.

Admittedly, Sakura would like him to tell her exactly what he was doing in Hong Kong all this time, but she had learned to have patience. She trusted Syaoran, and knew he trusted her just as much, so if he hadn’t revealed that little secret yet, he definitely had reasonable motives. It didn’t matter that he had kept them from her for so long; she would be supportive of his decision and wait until that special day comes. The mystery will be finally solved then.

Upon nearing the final lines, the girl blinked in confusion at what she saw: a set of foreign characters that she couldn’t quite read. She figured they were probably Chinese, and while she could not grasp their meaning, they somehow made her feel good, nonetheless.

“Something wrong, Sakura-san?” Her father couldn’t help but notice the subtle change in her expression.

“Hn, it’s nothing!” She shook her head and showed the letter to him, pointing at the one line she couldn’t translate. “It’s just that Syaoran-kun wrote something in Chinese, see?”

“Maybe he’s dumping you in Chinese?” Touya snickered once more, to which Sakura immediately responded with a very strong step on his foot.

“Well, I think that’s a good sign,” Fujitaka reasoned, as a means to get his daughter to lighten up again. “That means he will return soon and personally end your curiosity, right?”

Sakura nodded vigorously in agreement and beamed at her father. It was amazing how he always knew just the right thing to say and make her feel all better.

“Well, I’m leaving,” Touya stood up in a fluid motion and picked his backpack. He turned to his sister after and spared her yet another smirk. “I don’t want to be late.”

“Nee, what time is it?” She checked her watch and her face grew pale at the time. “Hoe, I have to hurry up! Wait for me, onii-chan!”

With a small yelp, Sakura gobbled down her breakfast and pounded her own chest in an attempt to quicken the intake process, rushing to gather up her bento and school belongings. Late as she was, she still found the time to read the last lines of Syaoran’s mail once more, neatly putting it away in the front pocket of her backpack – she would place that letter alongside the others as soon as she returned from classes. The message’s essence was what truly mattered, and that she would store somewhere else.

There was no better place to keep his ‘wo ai ni’ than the girl’s heart.
