Summary: A creature from another reality enters our world.
The herald had been curious about the other world. The Regulators did not know (for if they did they would destroy the herald), because they could not read minds. Reading minds was the job of heralds. They scan the thoughts of the breeders for any irregularity that would threaten their perfect society, like a curiosity about the other world. Fortunately for the herald, heralds could not read each other's minds.
Then one breeder somehow pushed through the gate the Regulators made to block off the other world. If one pathetic, dim-minded breeder could wriggle into the other world, then the herald had nothing to fear. The herald found the gape the gate left by the breeder, and pushed through like thread through the eye of a needle.
The herald swam through colors pale and translucent. Then the colors brightened and dug into the herald's flesh. A million thoughts radiated through the air. The herald could feel itself becoming pale, drifting back to its home. The herald reached forward and grabbed the nearest mind, so to would stay in this world of bizarre light and substance.
The mind, weak as any breeder mind, quickly broke under the herald's grip, spilling its contents across the heralds mind. Alien thoughts washed over the herald, naming themselves as they appeared; terror, confusion, fear, regret, love, lust, anger. One after another, in pairs, in droves, the thoughts came, the memories came, and they became the herald's thoughts and memories.
The herald was Samantha and Samantha was the herald. The herald starred at…her hand, flexing her fingers, reveling in the sensation and the memory of the sensation. Flesh. Skin. Bones. Blood. Compared to this, the first world was impossibly pale, a world of…ghosts, yes, ghosts was the word.
Samantha smiled. This was going to be so much fun.
