Dec. 05th [xxxHOLiC] Breathing for Tomorrows

Title: Breathing for Tomorrows
Day/Theme: Dec. 5th - Give me something to look forward to
Series: xxxHOLiC
Character/Pairing: Clow Reed x Yuuko Ichihara
Rating: T

Yuuko hated to dwell on the matter of Clow for too long, whatever occasion it may be; in the end, she would always wind up either frustrated at his obnoxious mannerisms, or too depressed when she remembered he soon would no longer be there to keep her annoyed. In addition, the latter often gave her the upsetting feeling of vulnerability, along with a very stubborn sort of weakness that only seemed to grow very time the witch was wrapped up in her musings.

Still, it wasn’t easy to avoid those thoughts when witch and magician were so close to each other, lying exhausted side by side after sharing moments of fiery passion. It was even harder to look at his sleeping form and not think of how much she loved that man, and how much she wanted to cling to him so they never had to part; clearly she would never carry out her will, for she would not allow herself to seem this helpless and dependant on him. At least, not quite yet.

His eyes fluttered open when she brushed a hand against his face and he smiled. Even through his blurred vision, Yuuko was the most beautiful sight he had ever contemplated, and even without his glasses, he could still see she was not happy that he had to go – neither for the night, or for good. Sometimes he nearly gave in to her silent plea and stayed until the break of dawn, but due to better judgment, he never did; it was likely to please both of them for the time being, but it would only make everything painfully harder in the long run.

It didn’t take much longer for him to gather his belongings and come to his feet, spectacles now perfectly adjusted on the bridge of his nose. Still careful not to make unnecessary noise, Clow leaned over so to kiss her forehead before leaving the room, and she sighed in relief. The fact that she could never tell when would be their last time together tended to put Yuuko on a restless state every time they had to go separate ways, but that single gesture was a sign they would see each other again – somehow, she just knew Clow would not give her goodnight when it was time to say goodbye.

A contented smile graced her features and the witch dove under the covers, secretly anticipating his return to her abode on the following afternoon. They were living on borrowed time, and she was breathing for tomorrows, for the small happiness and for those heavenly moments of earnest thrill that she could only enjoy by his side, day after day. If there was anything strong enough to rival such bliss, it escaped her knowledge; in all truths, she didn’t really care to find out, although she did wonder what would happen once Clow was no longer around to give her those little things to look forward to.

And then she sighed. That answer just never seemed to come to her.
