Theme 24: Waylaid by beauty
Series: Samurai X
Character: Kenshin x Kaoru
Rating: General
It was strange, Kenshin thought, that the sight of Kaoru in her teaching clothes, soaked by an unexpected rain (her gi clung to her like wet rice paper, her hakama like a dark skirt of waterweeds) should stir his heart so. He wished to reach out and entwine his fingers with hers (her hands were dreadfully muddy and very likely cold to the touch; the tips of her fingers had turned a rosy pink colour, matched by an identical flush in her cheeks). He desired so very many things and these days it seemed as though there was a creature curling within his chest, one that called out for and was stirred to life by her presence. It was a shocking thing, having his heart awoken so. It made him feel strange and haunting remains of his old life, further from that old, familiar fear. It was as though he was doomed, Kenshin thought, to want and want and to never really have anything at all.

Thambos (Greek, noun): the mingled emotions that come along with being struck dumb or immobilised by something beyond one's understanding; the feeling encountered when faced with nature in all its aspects (ie the most spectacular immensity to the tiniest beauties, and the inability to comprehend the feelings that arise)
