[Dec. 5, 2007][Suikoden] Temporary Victors

Title: Temporary Victors
Day/Theme: Dec. 5, 2007 "Give me something to look forward to"
Series: Suikoden III-related
Character/Pairing: Generals I. Sakurazaki and P. Pikard, with discussion of the Flame Champion
Rating: PG
Temporary, because we all know that the Flame Champion gets away. XP

"I thought you were going to kill him when you caught him," General Sakurazaki mused idly, twirling a lock of straight, black hair around his fingers. He watched the dying sunlight streak golden highlights across the silky tresses.

Crusader General Bishop Paulito Pikard scowled at his unruly second in command. They had elected Ihzak to fight, not to think. He, Bishop Pikard, was the brains of the operation! "Yes, he'll be killed," the older, scruffier man declared forcefully. "But it's not a task for you and me, Sakurazaki. This victory belongs to the entire Counsel, yes, and the whole nation as well. The man who claims the honor is the inquisitor general."

"Fine," the younger, cleaner man answered impatiently, "Then get the inquisitor general to shift his lazy self out here, string this Flame Champion up or whatever it is he wants to do with him, and then I'll go in, crush the Fire Bringer, and we'll be finished with this quagmire."

"No can do, my friend," Paulito laughed, "Though I understand your sentiment. That Ari'll be shipped back to Crystal Valley and General Vidal will deal with him there. I think of it as...Well, something to look forward to." He smiled at his subordinate in a friendlier waay than usual, "As well as your upcoming subjugation of the Grasslands. I look forward to that too."

"I look forward to your permanent return to Rosary," Ihzak thought sarcastically. He was sick of General Pikard pushing him around. Let him hurry back to Crusader headquarters where he belonged.

"Who's transporting our prisoner?" Ihzak asked, dropping down to sit cross-legged on the floor.

"I am," his commander replied, "Along with my personal staff."

"My prayers have been answered!" the mage general sighed internally in relief. Outwardly, he responded with only a nod of his head.

General Pikard stroked his short mustache, gazed in mock benevolence on this pestering imbecile, and left the tent to prepare for his journey back to Crystal Valley. He'd be greeted as a hero! Perhaps there would be enough public support to whip up a parade! Oh, then they'd all see how Ihzak was merely an ornament on the crown of his success!

Several soldiers who noticed General Pikard crossing the encampment that evening thought as he passed that it almost seemed like he was skipping. Of course, they spoke of this to no one.
