Dec. 3rd [Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE] Only a Game of Chess
Day/Theme: Dec. 3rd - Losing streak
Series: Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE
Character/Pairing: Kurogane x Fay D. Fluorite
Rating: PG
He was but a pawn, not a player by himself; still, he somehow felt like he had been on a losing streak since the day he was born. It was almost like yet another curse, one that life had cast upon him.
There was a time when the magician thought he no longer possessed the ability to choose for himself; he only lived to make sure the plans of another would unfold accordingly and to grant that man’s wish, as well as his own. That was the last remainder of a will he was still allowed to have, and merely because it was the only way to return his deceased twin – his dearest brother who had perished too soon because of him - to the realm of the living. Perhaps once he had paid his debt, he could consider acting on his own again, and not a minute earlier.
Little did he know that someone would come his way, just to mess with his heart and change his mind about his whole predicament.
He, too, was supposed to be a pawn, one that stood in the opposing colors of the chessboard. The ninja, however, refused to be toyed with; he had a fiery determination that the other lacked, and so he would definitely teach the blonde a few lessons. His methods were clearly a far cry from orthodox, but in the end, Kurogane only had Fay’s best at heart – even if he disguised and hid his good intentions behind a harsh mask.
It was his personal way to claim he would break all curses, to express his true emotions and show how much he cared.
It certainly would not be an easy process, they both knew. It would take a lot of time, and an even greater amount of wasted attempts; in fact, perhaps it would take something considerably more drastic to have Fay change his ultimately resigned demeanor, but it didn’t matter. They would go as far as needed in order to accomplish a goal, regardless of how much blood they shed, regardless of adversity; as long as one remained there to support the other, everything would be worth it.
Until the destined day came. Until the magician could meet the ninja on the battlefield and fight to the full extent of his abilities. Until pawn became player and decided his next set of moves out of his own choice.
Only then, the two titans would finally be able to battle side by side, aiming for a brighter future and a definite victory.
