[Nov 23] [The Lost Boys] Abandoned by the Sun
Title: Abandoned by the Sun

“The sun,” David proclaimed. “Is the farthest away it will ever be. Night rules the earth, and we rule the night.”
“The sun!” Paul echoed in a sneering whisper. He elbowed Marco, who smirked.
“We live forever!” David roared, and it echoed through the halls of their cavern. He always got vainglorious after feeding on sun-worshippers. It was as if the sunlight they soaked in was absorbed by their blood. It made for sweet, heady eating.
“The sun won’t last forever!” David went on. “It’ll fade like every other mortal thing, and when it goes out, the night will be as eternal as us. Immortal! Unending! Forever!”
Star shivered in her corner. Laddie was huddled in her lap. They were more sensitive to the sun’s absence than David was. This time of year, the vampires were restless and the half-bloods even more desperate.
“This is the night the dawn has to fight the hardest to return from,” David gestured drunkenly at the ocean. “It bleeds red on the horizon to struggle free of the darkness. The ocean glows with it.”
“Sun blood,” Dwayne rumbled. The others murmured with pleasure at the thought.
“This is the night!”
“Morning will come,” Star whispered to Laddie, smoothing his hair back.
“Until the night comes again,” he whispered back.
