[Nov 20] [Ranma] Time to Move On
Title: Time to Move On
Day/Theme: 20. all I had so far were endless beginnings
Series: Ranma 1/2
Character/Pairing: Ranma/Akane
Rating: G
“Are you as sick of this as I am?” Akane asked suddenly. They had been sitting in silence after the last fiasco. The house was trashed. Akane’s hand was bandaged. So was Ranma’s head.
“I’m getting used to it,” he muttered. She sounded angry still, but he was glad to see that it wasn’t directed entirely at him anymore.
“I mean, how long has this been going on?“ She waved her arms, flinched a tad, and put her hand down carefully. “How long is it going to go on?? No progress had been made with any of it, and I‘m sick of it.”
“What do you think we should do?” he asked, struggling for a casual, yet serious tone that wouldn’t set her off. The ‘we’ did soften the angry lines between her eyebrows and he filed that away for future use.
“Something has to end,” she said. “It’s like we’re stuck in those first few months forever. Everyone is still fighting over the exact same things that they did when you first came here.” She faltered and her good hand clenched. “Even us.”
They traded cautious looks through their bangs.
“What,” Ranma said, struggling not to say the wrong thing. His skull probably wouldn’t take another trauma today. “Were you, uh, thinking of, y’know, ending?”
“How about that silly engagement?” piped up Nabiki, as she strolled by in a pair of impossibly short shorts. “There’s two ways to end that.”
“Shut up,” growled Akane, but half-heartedly enough that Ranma realized that she had already thought of that.
“One, you could end it for good and go your separate ways,” Nabiki disappeared around the corner as she went into her room, but her voice carried perfectly. “Or two, you could end it by getting married and removing yourselves from the market. Either way, that particular part will be over.”
“How much is Dad paying you?” Akane sighed.
“Not enough to pay for the P-chan-shaped hole in my wall,” Nabiki said. “I can hear everything you lovebirds say. Take your little heart-to-heart elsewhere.”
The two sat in silence for another long moment.
"Maybe it is time to move on," Akane said. She got to her feet and went down the hall toward her room. A little slower, Ranma got up to follow.
