Kyon was ordering ice cream for Haruhi and himself. "I need a, uh, pistachio malt with raisins, rainbow sprinkles, and raspberry swirls... and mine's a vanilla."

Haruhi cleared her throat loudly, and looked at Kyon askance with one eyebrow raised.

Kyon hung his head and sighed. "Make that two pistachio malts with raisins, rainbow sprinkles, and raspberry swirls."

And then, he turned to Haruhi. "You know," he said, "you're free to live your life any way you want, but you don't have to try to make my life interesting too."

"Yes, I do," Haruhi said, without a trace of irony.
