[November 6th] [Spirited Away] Resurfacing
Title: Resurfacing
Day/Theme: 6. more than a memory
Series: Spirited Away
Character/Pairing: Chihiro
Rating: G (Based on the dvd commentary that said when Chihiro went back through the tunnel and found her parents, she didn't remember any of what had happened.)
There was no question that the place was beautiful. She had come there fully prepared to hate every second, but it just wasn‘t that easy. Their new house was on a hill over looking the woods. It was usually windy and the breeze would carry the distant, soul-plucking sound of chimes.
On days off, she had walked through the woods. She was drawn there, but wasn’t sure why. Maybe it was the city girl in her, taking advantage of the forest. She had been hoping to see the little shrines again, but had stumbled across the tunnel. She had been through it once, the day they had moved here. The wind twined around her legs, pulling her forward.
Something flickered in her mind, catching the light like a minnow in a pool. I did this before, she thought. That day The tunnel smelled like wet and cool stone. It smelled like a river. The wind poured around her body like water might. It was entirely too familiar to be just a day from a year ago. The sound of chimes could be heard from down in the dark. Where was that sound coming from?
She stared into the mouth of the tunnel, only dimly aware of the beaming statue behind her, and the empty shrines peering out of the underbrush like expectant eyes. The wind gave a final caress through her hair, then crept away with the rustle of dry leaves down the tunnel.
She stood breathless a moment, savoring the wild feeling that this was why she kept wandering the woods. Then, she followed the fleeing breeze into the dark.
