Walter had once called this mood of hers ‘the weight of the world’. He had stopped saying it out loud long ago, but Integra was certain he still thought it. Sitting at her desk, chin on one hand, paperwork in the other, maybe it did look like she was being weighed down.
She wasn’t. She was engulfed. The weight wasn’t on her shoulders, it was all around her. The mansion was made of it, it was engraved in her family’s tombstones, embroidered in Alucard’s gloves. It took up most of her thoughts. She breathed it. No matter what other enemies or obstacles she destroyed, there was no escaping from that.
