He came because he had to. There wasn’t enough thought for him to have a reason. Even without a heart, something in him had to go to her. It had pulled him from the war. He was so far gone that he wasn’t even aware of her when she ran to him.
Warmth and softness brushed against his lips and her breath touched his cheek. He heard her voice, but only processed the command. For a moment, he didn’t move. The empty place where his heart should’ve been had settled. Acceptance, then. His wings spread, and he carried her away.
