[Sept. 29, 2007][Grandia] Red Hair and Blue Hat

Title: Red Hair and Blue Hat
Day/Theme: Sept. 29, 2007 "Your red tresses, my little tower"
Series: Grandia
Character/Pairing: Justin x Feena, Rapp, Liete
Rating: PG

"Hundred million degrees! Take that!" Rapp yelled, wildly flinging a fireball past his companions to strike down a turquoise lizard-like monster as it reared up behind Justin. Justin's hat blew off his head, falling to the muddy ground, as he stumbled forward to avoid being singed by the flames.

The monster fell back, it's scaled blacked and Liete finished it off with a swift blow from her jewel-studded mace.

"Yikes!" Justin squeaked, retrieving his hat. "That was a bit too close for comfort!"

"He's right, Rapp!" Feena chided, "You could've hurt Justin!"

Rapp crossed his arms irritably. "What? Can't I do anything right? I was jus' trying to be helpful! You understand, doncha Justin?"

"Yeah, I know you didn't mean it," the young adventurer smiled, wiping mud off the lenses of his rarely worn goggles. "It's okay, Rapp. Thanks for taking care of that last one."

"Maybe we should wash your hat when we get back to town," the green-haired girl suggested, looking over the battered cap. It had been a much brighter color when she first met Justin, attractively setting off his reddish-brown hair. From its worn edge to the spots that showed all the dirt, blood, and other damage the hat had taken since Justin had left Parm to go adventuring, it was obvious that his beloved hat had since better days.

"I guess you're right," Justin agreed. He didn't put his hat back on because he wasn't especially keen on having to wash dirt out of his hair when they arrived at the inn. All the monsters they had slashed their way through along the road had really stirred up his appetite.

Feena watched Justin's messy tresses bounce up and down as he walked. Each strand of hair seemed to have a life of its own, with as much energy as Justin himself possessed. Feena wouldn't have wanted her hair to stick up here and there so haphazardly, but on Justin, it was actually kind of cute. She smiled at the back of his bare head.

"I hope the food in this place ain't so spicy as that last time," Rapp chattered amicably.

"Ha ha ha," the blue-clad boy laughed, "I thought you were tougher than that, Rapp! Defeated by a stew!"

The long-eared boy wrinkled his nose, "It wasn't just any old stew! That thing must've been full of chili pepper! I nearly burned my tongue off!"

"I don't think that's a problem you're likely to experience again," Liete noted demurely.

Feena had fallen a ways behind, caught up in thoughts of how mature Justin had become since she first met him. At the time, he had seemed like a silly little kid, chasing dreams much bigger than was wise for someone so naive, but Feena had come to admire his drive and spirit, and to treasure his sweet naivete. She really would be sad to leave him. He had become so special to her...

"Feena!" Justin called. The girl looked up the road to see the other three waiting for her to catch up. "Feena! Come on!" He waved, "Do you expect me to go on without you?"

She shook her head shyly and beamed, running lightly along and reaching out to take his outstretched hand. Justin's grip was warm and strong, and he was smiling back.
