[Sept. 27, 2007][Avatar] Sleep On It

Title: Sleep On It
Day/Theme: Sept. 27, 2007 "The complexity of your twilight"
Series: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Character/Pairing: Kuei, Sheh Ron, Hua, Bosco
Rating: G

By the time dinner was finished, Sheh Ron, in a loose, clean robe, seemed less annoyed by Kuei and more simply amused. The wandering king was relieved to be fully washed and fed at last. He rubbed the edge of the borrowed robe he was wearing between his fingers. It was soft, but not silky. It was also quite a bit too big, as Sheh Ron was not only taller than him, but furthermore, considerably rounder.

"I wouldn't have guessed you had all that long hair either," Hua agreed with her father.

After he had washed his hair, Kuei has braided it up again, but rather than wrap it up under his slightly sweaty turban, had left it hanging down his back to his waist. Hua wanted to touch his hair...It looked so much softer and thicker than her own, but it seemed like a weird thing to ask.

"Heading out in the morning?" the chief inquired. "If you stop in Wei Lan- that's just up the road from her- say hello to Hao Yang for me. He's a hunter. We used to be good friends."

"Where does the road lead to from Wei Lan?"

"It heads towards Ba Sing Se then forks between the way to the capital and a trail into the wilds and more countryside."

"But you don't want to be near Ba Sing Se," Hua insisted, "Because the Fire Nation's soldiers are clustered in that area."

"He knows that, Dear," Sheh Ron murmured.

Kuei thought about leaving. He didn't want to impose on anyone and he had no money to pay for his food or lodgings with. However, there was still plenty that he could learn in Soh Jang. He and Bosco could fish in the river, Sheh Ron could teach him about making pottery, Hua could show him how to cook rice and do the house chores... "I think I'll have to sleep on it," he finally announced, "When you're not sure where you're going it's harder to decide when to leave."

Hua smiled and nodded. Sheh Ron yawned, "I'm going to sleep. The sun's far enough down for a man my age." He stood up and stretched. "C'mon, Kuei, you and your bear can squeeze in too. There's plenty of room on the floor."

A floor in a house was better than the grass on the ground any day, so though he had hoped to sleep in a bed again, Kuei would not complain. Bosco, who Hua had managed to buy more fish for during the day, seemed right at home here already. "I wish I could act like I belonged as easily as Bosco does," Kuei thought to himself.
