September 23: Mirrormask. 'Sticky'
Title: Sticky
Day/Theme: September 23: If you find yourself caught in love

There it was, sticky as a toddler in a toffee factory, and in its own way, sweeter. He didn’t have a mask for this one. She was too young for him. Her face moved too much. She said things out loud that he had been very careful to pretend weren’t true. She was, above all things, inconvenient.
He had tried to be rid of her. He had sold her for a fancy hat full of dark jewels. He had left her behind to take the only escape for himself through the mirror. He had left her hurt and scared in the room with all the keyholes.
But, and here was the sticky part, he always kept coming back. For some stupid reason or another. Against all better judgment. She could juggle, yes, but she was weird. She had a stare like that old lady’s creepy cats. There was also the resemblance to the Queen, which was terrible, even if the Queen was beautiful. A sensible man such as himself knew better.
None of that changed the fact that she had been more right than him about the untrue things, though. It didn’t change that she smelled buttery and sweet. Or that her smile was beautiful without being terrible. If she had worn a mask, he might’ve missed it. And when she was gone, he DID miss it. Enough to give up his own mask and follow her through.
