[Sept. 21, 2007][Original] Into the Dark

Title: Into the Dark
Day/Theme: Sept. 21, 2007 "I'm sick of waking up on your floor"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Kojiro, Ditto, Wind-Bell
Rating: PG

Ditto seemed relieved. "Good, good," he breathed.

Wind-Bell, despite her initial alarm, easily accepted this sudden burst of goodwill. She set to work tackling all the tasks necessary to get the wanted men out of Chirin as quickly as possible, cleaning Kojiro's rapier and filling a bag with food.

Kojiro went upstairs to put on a new tunic, leaving DItto to pace back and forth nervously across the rug in the front room, occasionally peeking out of the curtained window. "Ay!" he squeaked, seeing lights approach the house, "Hurry! Hurry!"

Kojiro came down the stairs freshly clad in a bright orange tunic. His mind raced as he tried to think of a way out of having to speak with what was either a search party for an arrest squad. He glanced at Wind-Bell, who had remained relatively clam since they got to the house. She was running her fingers along the wall beside the staircase. When he pushed against the panel, it bent strangely, dipping part way in.

"What'd you just do?" Kojiro inquired. Ditto turned and looked as well.

The dark-haired woman pushed more firmly against the wall and the panel slid inward. "Come on. We can sneak out this way."

Kojiro followed her into the passage with the trust from their long-standing relationship. Ditto was more hesitant to step into the dark. "How come I was never told about this?" Kojiro complained.

Wind-Bell carefully fitted the panel back in place, all but extinguishing the soft light from the house. "I don't know. Master Chisei showed this to me a long time ago."

Kojiro's eyes adjusted slowly to the blackness. He could tell Wind-Bell and Ditto were standing close beside him, but he still felt as if a misstep could send him plummeting into the bowels of the earth. Gingerly he reached out a gloved hand to feel the safety of the solid wall.

His eyes were then forced to reevaluated this position as a tiny blue light grew between Ditto's hands.
"How did you do that?" Wind-Bell sounded impressed.

"Magic!" Kojiro gaped at the floating fire.

"It is suikaji. How you say...will-o'-wisp?" Ditto tried to explain. "Tobalito-Tahleh showed me. It is not so hard."

Now in the weak glow Kojiro could be assured that the path was solid enough. He could barely believe that this was under his house.
