[September 20] [Tales of Legendia] existential questions
Title: existential questions
Day/Theme: September 20 / your heart is an empty room
Series: Tales of Legendia
Character/Pairing: Jay, Moses
Rating: PG
"I'm aware I'm not a good person. It's not as though I try to be."
Jay carefully removes his neckpiece and shakes back his long hair. "It was never a question of that. It's more that...you wouldn't understand, anyway."
Several seconds of long silence follow, in which Moses taps his fingers repeatedly against the desk.
"Stop saying nothing like that, bandit, it's disturbing. It's...popular belief holds that there is an essential...quality, if you will, that defines human beings. Your 'humanity'. I...was told that I did not have this quality.
"I was a foolish, naive child. Naive enough to let the words of someone I knew I couldn't trust rule my thoughts. And that's it, really. There isn't any more."
"So what do you think now?"
"Does it matter?" A slight shrug. "I'll live my life the way I want to live it, not according to how others think I deserve to live it."
Moses is silent.
A small smile. "If you were hoping to hear something more definite, bandit, you're out of luck. I'm not you. I don't make assertions I can't back up."
