"Katara, you should eat," Sokka said, tapping the door to the sick room softly.

Katara didn't bother to turn around or even open her eyes. "I can't. Aang needs me right now."

"You've been at it all day," Sokka said and Katara missed the worried note in his voice. "Half an hour to eat won't hurt him."

Katara whipped her head around in order to glare at him, "This is the difference between life and death. I know more about this than you, so - "

"You're not going to be able to help anyone if you starve to death," Sokka snapped. "I'll watch him and makes sure he doesn't die while you eat."

"You can't tell me what to do," Katara said.

"But dad can," Sokka said.

"That's petty," Katara said, but she cracked a smile for the first time in what felt like a year. Brushing her fingers gently across Aang's forehead, she muttered in a way that reminded Sokka of the way his mother sometimes spoke to his father "I'll be right back. Hang on."

Sitting down in the chair his sister had just sat in, Sokka realized with a sudden jolt that Katara was in love with Aang.
