[Sept. 15, 2007][Suikoden] Decline into Dreams

Title: Decline into Dreams
Day/Theme: Sept. 15, 2007 "Your secret of a clandestine autumn"
Series: Suikoden
Character/Pairing: Hikusaak, Sasarai
Rating: PG

His decline was internal. As he allowed himself to be seen by few people, and spoken to by fewer still, his fading was not widely known. His son certainly did not know about it until just recently although this downward slope had been the path of choice for several decades now.

"You wanted to speak to me?" Sasarai inquired both nervously and curiously. It never seemed like a good thing for his father to send for him, but it didn't directly correlate to a punishment or difficult task. It was only something strange and unusual.

"I was disturbed recently," Hikusaak said in a youthful and rather whiny manner. "i didn't like it one bit." His tone reminded Sasarai of Luc in his more peevish moments.

He stopped speaking, leading his son to assume he was expected to say something. "Is there something you'd like me to do about it?" he ventured awkwardly.

"Yes," his father replied bluntly, "I want you to keep everyone away from me. I need some time to rest in peace. I have reached a point in the circle where I do not want to be disturbed."

"Oh, okay," Sasarai responded dumbly. It was all he could think of to say. He had not spoken with his father in months, and this was what the chief priest wanted from him?

"You don't look quite well, my son," Hikusaak added, his voice turning older and less egotistical. "I think you should take this quiet period to get some rest too."

The bishop looked himself over. He didn't feel out of sorts, but with so many constant demands on him due to his position, he wasn't one to turn down a bit of rest and quiet time. "Yes, Your Holiness." He stood up and bowed.

"Goodnight, Sasarai," the chief priest smiled pleasantly and closed his eyes. He lay in bed looking as neat and serene as some enchanted maiden. Sasarai wondered if he had been speaking to the man, the rune, of some combination of both as he softly closed he door behind him.

He shivered. That eerily gentle goodnight and whisper of his name had been disconcerting. His father rarely said his name aloud. ...Actually, now that he though about it, Sasarai could see that he rarely said anyone's name. It just seemed to be one of his father's myriad of idiosyncrasies. His age and his power made him a very unique man. But his dilemma did not need a unique solution. A "Do Not Disturb" sign outside his quarters seemed to work just fine.
