"--third one this month," Moses is saying.
Jay raises an eyebrow. Moses suspects he's only hanging around so he can mock Moses after Moses finishes.
"What am I supposed t' say to them? They're all relyin' on me, and they're dying, and--fuck, I just don't know what t' do."
There are several long seconds of silence. Jay steeples his fingers. "Get over yourself, bandit."
"You never quit, do you?" Moses says.
Jay shrugs. "If you wanted sympathy and pity, you should have gone to see Senel."
"Would it kill you to be nice for a change?"
"To you? Yes." Jay strides over to the other end of the room and starts pulling out files, all-but-throwing them at Moses. "It might be in your best interest to pick those up, by the way. You do want the attacks to stop, yes?"
"Fuck you," Moses growls.
"Really now, bandit." For the first time that night, a small smile crosses his face. "I know it's in your nature to be crude, but please try to restrain yourself."
