[Sept. 12, 2007][Suikoden] Some Words for the Maiden

Title: Some Words for the Maiden
Day/Theme: Sept. 12, 2007 "An ode to your innocence"
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Sarah, Luc, Apallan
Rating: PG-13

Apallan had loaned some of his troops to the masked bishop. he had agreed to it without even thinking about it, so after the realityy of the situation hit him, the general was relieved that the mysterious man had only asked for a very small force. Apallan sighed. It had been entirely his fault. It was just that the bishop's assistant was so attractive! He couldn't help but have his attention drawn to her.

Oh, she had looked so young, but she was quite and didn't smile. Even his most successful lines seemed to have no effect on her. Of course, this did not stop Apallan Rimini! He prided himself on his stubborn refusal to be easily deterred. While the masked bishop continued to talk business, Apallan smiled and winked meaningfully at the girl. She had gazed back blankly, and honestly seemed a bit confused about the wink. ...That was when it hit him: she was too innocent! This pale girl was too young and inexperienced to understand the meaning of his tricks. It was as he pondered this conclusion that he signed away the troops.

"So foolish," the general told himself, leaning his head against his hand. ...Of course, he didn't regret what he'd done, only the manner in which he'd gone about doing it. And the girl seemed shy to begini with...now he'd probably never see her again!

When the masked bishop returned later that week to take the soldiers, Apallan was disappointed to see that he had come alone. "Where's your helper?"

"Sarah?" was the quiet respose, almost more of an exhaled breath than a name. "Elsewhere."

Well, the general internally rolled his eyes, that was vague. "Could you give her a message for me?" he asked instead of voicing his annoyance. "Tell Sarah that: 'A pure white rose is rare indeed,' and 'Innocence is bliss.'"

Something about this untamed idiocy reminded Luc of several of his acquaintances in Toran and Dunan. He wanted to tell this middle-aged creep to take a hike, but he refrained from losing his cool. He needed this token group of soldiers and it seemed unlikely anyone else would lend them so easily. "I will," he replied.

As he left the garrison he decided to make those words a lie. The last thing Sarah needed in this stressful situation was a suspiciously slimy general's bizarre love messages making her lose sleep.
