Aang has known Katara for almost a year, but he will never get quite used to her. How can he, when every day, it hits him in a different way just how amazing, how incredible she is?
"Hey, Katara?"
"What is it, Aang?"
"Um...now, since the war's over..." He closes his eyes and says it all at once. "WouldyouliketotravelwithAppaandme?"
Katara flushes. "Oh. Um, I should really check in on my tribe first, to see if there's anything I can do with the rebuilding--but afterwards..." She looks down. "Why not?"
The grin threatens to split his face. "Great! So, uh, where do you want to go?"
"You know the sights better than I do," she says, smiling. "How about you decide?"
(The three-hundred-eleventh way is in the tone of her voice--soft and gentle, with a barely contained laugh. The three-hundred-twelfth is the feel of her hand as it covers his.)
