Snowe had remained a private citizen, living in a small house in Razril, keeping out of the public eye. Hisi main interest was gardening. When he first picked up the hobby, he had been clueless, unable to tell a poppy from a daisy, but as he devoted himself to the task he became more and more knowledgeable, aware of the tiny differences between tulips from Falena and tulips from Nay.

Long hours in the sun had darkened his once pale skin to a mild brown. As he aged, his back bent and his skin wrinkled, but he slowly continued to tend his garden and give his neighbros a bit of help with theirs. He was a very old man now, living alone with only his flowers for company.

"No one knew him as "Snowe Vingerhut" anymore, but as "the flower man" or "Old Man Snowe." The most recent reference to his surname had come in a letter from a Harmonian bishop visiting the area who had a questions regarding the ferns on Obel. The letter had addressed him as "Mr. S. V." That had been thirty years ago.

His rheumatism warned him of when the rains were coming, so he didn't water heavily. Even when the blustery late summer storms kept him inside, Snowe had plants to tent to- delicate little orchids and violets in pots.

Visitors were rare, so he spoke to his plants to keep himself company. But one spring day a visitor came. He wore a heavy cloak despite the warmth in the air and would not remove it until they were safely inside. The man pushed back his hood to reveal a face so young, so strong, so nostalgic that Snowe could not help but embrace his guest with all his strength. Here was one he loved so much, and had missed, and now he never wanted to let go. "Koji..." he gasped and the name became a sob.

"Snowe..." Koji replied. His face was young, but his eyes were as old as Snowe's.

"I never expected to see you like this,"the bent and crumpled man whispered to his friend, "I never even expected to see you again!"

"What kind of friend would I be if I never visited you again?" Koji said with a kind of chuckle in his voice.

Snowe stepped back and pulled out a chair from the table. "Have a seat, have a seat! There are so many things that I want to tell you."

"Thank you," Koji smiled and sat down, allowing his friend to do all the talking, just as he had in the old days. Though certain aspects of his personality remained true to his roots, Koji could see that Snowe had only become a better, gentler man through the years.

Snowe felt like he could speak for hours, but at last he was done. Koji was smiling and he smiled back. He felt such a deep peace and happiness...

His neighbors wondered when they didn't see him gardening the next day. There was no answer at the door. They found him in the chair, still faintly smiling.
