[Sept. 9, 2007][Original] The Great Rhino Games

Title: The Great Rhino Games
Day/Theme: Sept. 9, 2007 "You're the model of a charmless man"
Series: Original/related to a mini-game in Donkey Kong 64
Character/Pairing: Takeyo, Suwa, the rhino
Rating: G- but beware, this is crack!
Dedicated to my mom, who said, "Write about that rhino game." This is her fault. ^^;

"Mother, I can't believe you're allowing this," Prince Takeyo grumbled. From his seat in the royal box he could see that the stadium was packed with wild spectators ready to see the bizarre activity about to begin below. Already the giant beavers had been let loose and they ran about in aimless twos or threes.

The prince turned to the man responsible for importing the beasts for this event. "Suwa, honestly, why do you think people would pay to see this madness? And how did you convince Mother to let you do it?"

The sly shaman chuckled at what he imagined to be the young prince's naïveté, "Oh, Takeyo, the crowds always adore this sort of spectacle. Your mother understands that the people need to be entertained."

"They why didn't she come to watch herself?" Takeyo sneered at the queen's favorite. He didn't know what she saw in this fool.

A roar of approval went up from the masses and Takeyo turned to see what had earned such hearty cheers. The rhino had entered the stadium. It was a gray beast with a thick skin that gave the appearance of armor, but the most notable characteristic of the creature was its protruding horn.

The referee in his box just above the dirt level waved the flag for the rhino to begin and flipped his minute glass over. Takeyo gasped as the rhino went to work, grunting and snorting as it dashed back and forth like mad using its formidable horn to toss beavers into the air, one, two, three at a time. As the referee tallied the amount of tosses, struggling to keep up with the rhino's crazed speed and ferocity, the onlookers shrieked with excitement.

Takeyo wondered how they would convince the rhino to stop when the sand ran out. The imported beast looked as though he had become berserk with rage. The prince glanced at Suwa, who sat proudly in what was usually the queen's personal seat. The clever shaman was grinning as he watched the rhino spin and stomp. Takeyo couldn't tell if Suwa's joy came from the game itself or from the pleasure of having been right about the audience's reaction.

"That's...time!" yelled the referee as they last few grains of sand trickled down. He waved the flag and the rhino slowed his rampage to run around the edge of the area giving all the screaming and hollering fans a good look at his powerful frame.

The battered beavers exited slowly. Takeyo was as stunned as they were.

Author's thoughts continued: I'm sorry my poor characters for being involved in this craziness! Thank you for being such good sports! >_<;
