[Sept. 8, 2007][Suikoden] Hope of the Future
Title: Hope of the Future
Day/Theme: Sept. 8, 2007 "Dovetailed solution of your heart"
Series: Suikoden
Character/Pairing: Izabel x Mathias, Fred, Maximillian
Rating: G
So many times in life things don't work out right. ...But they had for Izabel and Mathias. Sure the halberd-swinging man was still his terse, evil-punishing self, but that did not stop him from being a dedicated husband or a gentle father.
Fred had his mother's bright eyes and wild spirit, but he learned to speak in a manner much like his father. As a little boy on unsteady legs he ran about the yard with a round-edged wooden sword and shield, announcing himself to and challenging the passersby. Izabel was proud of his abundant energy and early interest in the matters of knighthood and her father was delighted by his grandson's antics. When he visited the house, Maximillian would pick up Fred and set him on his knee, animatedly telling him tales of his younger days. Fred was enthralled by the stories of traveling through mysterious forests and foreign cities, battles fought on horseback, on foot, and in all kinds of weather, and the honor and chivalry of the order.
As he grew and trained in the ways of the sword, Izabel began to feel a new sense of hope concerning the reemergence of the Maximillian Knights. Fred was good at gathering the other boys (and some of the girls) in the area and organizing them to play elaborate ball games or capture the flag. He shared in his father's single-mindedness to some extent, but with the need to reestablish the knights as an organization ahead of him, his mother could not say for certain that this would be a fault. It was more important that he be true to his values and sense of justice. More likely than not, Sancho's little girl would be helping him out in the future, and Izabel knew that she and Mathias would do their best to support their son in any way they could. Their efforts (as well as her father's) to build up the stature of the knighthood would be a firm foundation for Fred to set to work upon.
...But that was the future. Fred was still just a messy-haired boy who loved to play catch with his father and had to be reminded often to keep his elbows off the table while he ate. Izabel took a break from her sword exercises to take a peek at the two awkwardly lovable men in her life. As she had expected, they were tossing a ball back and forth fast and hard in front of the house with serious lips, but smiles in their eyes.
