There was so much beyond the bathhouse. There had to be. There was a train. There were the shops. There were those huge flower gardens. It couldn’t all be for the bathhouse.
All those strange shadow people had to live somewhere. They all had their own lives somewhere, right? Even the spirits that visited. They all came from somewhere and left to somewhere.
The bathhouse wasn’t the whole world in this place. Even if it felt like it on rainy days like this. Even if Yubaba liked her staff to think it was
Haku was the only one with a way out. Sen watched out her window for him, a pale streak in the blue-gray evening rain. Lin watched the train and talked about leaving, but never where to. Sen didn’t care where she went either, as long as she flew.
