[Sept. 2, 2007][Suikoden] Examining the Commanding Officer

Title: Examining the Commanding Officer
Day/Theme: Sept. 2, 2007 "You illustrate the sun's true candor"
Series: Suikoden
Character/Pairing: Dios and Sasarai
Rating: G

Bishop Sasarai was smart, polite, and friendly. Everyday Dios worked alongside him he was haunted by the sad knowledge that in the end he would find himself back under the command of General Rimini.

"Oh, and there are dandelions too. The fields here might not be well-tended now because of the battle, but they certainly have character," Sasarai chattered amicably to no one in particular.

Dios liked Sasarai's lackadaisical, youthful manner when he was away from the battlefield. Perhaps he was subtly strategizing in his mind, but his idle talk certainly didn't indicate that. The sunbeams shining on his hair illuminated the varied hues of his neatly-clipped tresses as he knelt down to take a closer look at the weeds that had infiltrated this abandoned field. Along with the yellow dandelions were a variety of grasses, clover, and shepherd's purse.

"I think we should head back now," the bishop suggested. Dios nodded and followed his temporary commander's lead back to the Central Army's main camp. As they passed by the waiting troops, quite a few "hello"s and "good afternoon"s were offered to the bright-eyed general who waved and smiled to each man in response. He appeared genuinely glad to greet each of his men, some of whom he even knew by name although they were everyday foot soldiers.

Back in the command center tent, Sasarai sat down on the single chair in the camp that had been dragged down from Kin-Nyang for him to use along with the small desk with folding legs. He tossed up his feet and crossed his legs with his boots on the desktop. Dios, a bit embarrassed about the prospect of sitting on the floor, leaned against the side of the desk.

"You look a little overwhelmed, Captain," the bishop chuckled.

"No, not at all," the blond man exaggerated somewhat. He wondered how the bishop imagined other people thought about him. ...Then again, Sasarai did not seem like the type that cared about others' opinions overmuch.

"I can't plan anything major until Sumi gets back," the brunette candidly explained his kicking back. "It's because I let her borrow all the maps to consult with Sergeant Hap. He always gets a little offended if he thinks I'm withholding details of the operation from him. We've been together since Dunan unified."

Dios saw his commander's smile when he thought of his long-time subordinate and he wondered if someday the bishop might look back upon his experiences with him in a similar manner.
