Their baby was gone. Taken.

The other children were shrieking, eyes tiny specks of blazing color in the haze. The air was fuzzy with pollen, and vibrating with their rage. From the distance, they could hear their baby calling. It cried in pain and begged for help. The family roared out into the open, not caring what was in their way. They would have their baby back, no matter what had to be crushed and trampled. No matter how many had to die.

The forest was left behind, but they could hear it calling after them. Through their fury, it told them to follow the wind. Help was coming. The wind that carried the pollen was bringing the one that would help. It also carried the fading wails of their baby. They could feel its pain shiver through their own skins. Here and there were drops of its blood, spattering blue on the plains.

Help was coming. They screamed it into the sky where their baby had been taken. Let the young one hear and take heart. They were coming.
