[June 20, 2007][Suikoden] Frog Song Night
Title: Frog Song Night
Day/Theme: June 20, 2007 "Strengthen me with flagons of wine, refresh me with apples; for sick of love am I"
Series: Suikoden
Character/Pairing: Dios and family
Rating: PG
There were frogs nearby. Dios could hear them croaking in the night. They made tiny peeps and hiccuping bleats over and over from some unseen puddle. They didn't exactly bother him, but as his sleepless hours dragged on, their repetitive calls wore on him.
His house was empty now, Kina having taken the children and gone several days ago. The hedge by the gate was in need of some clipping, having gone as untended as the rest of the garden since their departure. He and Darren usually worked on the yard together.
Dios lay on the unmade bed in the unlit bedroom, drinking copious amounts of wine from a bottle he had found in the cellar. Kina had been thorough in her quest to take nothing that belonged to her husband. The wine had been a gift from a few Mercades he had befriended in his academy days. He hadn't seen them in years, but he wished he could thank them again for the gift. It had turned out to be an excellent vintage. It tasted nice with the apples that had been his lonely supper. Their cores and seeds were tossed haphazardly into the silver bowl that had only so recently shone red from their luscious reflections.
Dios wasn't sure if he loved Kina these days. Though he wasn't yet sure that he loved Yuiri either. And there was Nika too. He sighed. Women were complicated. Maybe they really were more trouble than they were worth. The only people he was sure he still wanted to love and have love him back were Darren, Catrine, and Sasarai. They had their faults, but they were certainly much simpler to get along with.
He wondered what had attracted the frogs. His own yard was dry. Perhaps some neighbor had a pond or fountain he was unaware of. Darren and Catrine would've liked the frogs. He hoped that they would come back to the house soon and could go searching for them.
The bedroom was messy. Kina hadn't tried to keep his things especially neat as she cleaned out her belongings. There were socks hanging out of the dresser and several pairs of boots strewn across the floor. In his hazy state, the stars outside seemed to grow strangely large and close. He was lonely. He felt rather disgusting about the whole affair. He needed to get a little more drunk to forget this for a while. Perhaps he could convince the bishop to come by and keep him company the next night, even though Sasarai rarely drank. He just couldn't go on like this.
