[June 11, 2007][Original] Turned on Thrice

Title: Turned on Thrice
Day/Theme: June 11, 2007 "ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolk, and friends"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Jiiru Pohscratt and aspects of Ligaia
Rating: PG

The decision by the other generals to back out disgusted Jiiru. Ligaia might have lost a fortress to Messina, but there was no way the enemy could hold it. Even the efforts that had brought them this far came as somewhat of a surprise. They had no true forts and little experience defending them. As they pushed ahead they would probably leave only a token garrison to watch over it. And the Holy Knights of this battle were nothing fiercer than Ligaia had faced many times before. They were three men and an old ex-knight against an entire army! Jiiru would show his fellow commanders! He'd use his enchanted shield and his two blades to destroy the knighthood by himself. Messina was weak and only getting weaker. Cambria, despite its boasts, seemed inclined to give only token support to its floundering ally.

The general were not the only ones who chose to betray him. Jiiru could see a certain amount of sense behind the treachery of the people. He had been forced to bring down one border city to make the populace truly perceive the Messinan threat. ...Or rather he would've understood the loss of support had the people been aware of these cruel facts. As the situation stood, they appeared to be merely flighty, suddenly saying they were sick and tired of war. Bah! What hypocrisy! But Jiiru did not need the people. If they did not share supplies, he would commandeer them. If they would not enlist, he would forcibly draft them.

Oddly enough, Jiiru had been turned on by his nation a third time, although he would never know it. Alywin's final words had laid Seif's origins bare along with the secrets of the knights. Seif himself was born a Ligaian and now he came against the homeland he had never known with a sword in hand. Jiiru's feelings would not have been changed by these facts, but he would surely have appreciated the irony.
