[August 1] [Naruto] And after, they lived
Title: And after, they lived
Day/Theme: August 1st / be indomitable, o my heart
Series: Naruto
Character/Pairing: Sasuke x Sakura. Sorta.
Rating: General
Comments / concrit appreciated.
Because these things remain true, even after death has been avoided: it is difficult to love and be loved by someone you will never quite understand.
The horrible, sad thing was that they did try—all of Konoha knew how she had been trying to love him her entire life, or what passed for it—and there were the usual, physical signs of a successful marriage that followed them about: children, a house with a garden, a mailbox full of handwritten correspondence. But Sasuke could not disguise the blankness about him that came from having one's soul forcibly removed, and Sakura would always, for the rest of her life, wear the strained expression she had acquired from repairing the shattered and mismatched fragments of her husband's life.
It was a hard thing, one that broke her down a little more each day, each hour that she lived in the shadow of Sasuke and his malignant history—but Sakura hadn't started loving him because it was the easy thing to do, or even the right one, and she was too stubborn to stop now.
This is our life, she thinks to herself, and pretends to forget that anything else was ever possible.
