"You can't go on like this, Cyan. I know you still have your strength, but these aren't your younger days when you could spar with your teacher for hours and then hunt down monsters in the countryside."

Elayne's face bore an intense expression as she waited for Cyan to reply.

"Do you want your husband to be a coward?" he asked.

"I want my husband to be alive!"

"Perhaps I am not as fast as I used to be, but I am only fifty years old and I can still fight."

"They would give you some other position here in Doma Castle if you asked. Something easier... teaching strategy in a classroom, perhaps."

Cyan looked into his wife's eyes. "I would give you anything, but please never ask me again to stop being a warrior."

He expected her to protest again, but she only embraced him and put her head on his shoulder.

"I understand. Just stay safe for me."
