'I love you,' she thought--she wanted to shout--as his lips touched hers. It was barely the ghost of a kiss, swift and sad and then... then he was gone.

She was wakened by the touch of sunlight on her face. She thought for an instant that he'd returned, but... he wasn't there. A beautiful field as lush as the desert had been bleak, a breeze as soft as the desert wind had been harsh... that was there.

He didn't come to see them off, even... but she blew him a kiss anyway. He'd see it, somehow.

And someday she'd see him.
