Yay for doing all 30 days of April!

The irises were purple, deep and elegant, and streaked with smears of dandelion yellow. "Try adding a little more blue to that purple," Krelian suggested. He crossed his arms and cocked his head toward the flowers in the white vase, comparing them to the painting taking shape on the canvas. Lacan was really quite good at this.

His friend took his suggestion, adding an azure splash to the complex mass of violet. "Is that better?" he asked.

"Yeah, much better. But I think I still like your portraits best. You find something in the eyes of a person when you paint that you don't when it's flowers or fruit." Krelian tapped his foot as he thought, trying to hurry the process, "I think it's the soul. You're painting more than a face. It's something for the innermost depths of a person."

Lacan laughed and carefully set his brush down by his paints. For the first time in the conversation, the artist turned around fully, facing Krelian from his perch on the tall stool. "Do you really think it's something that deep? Thanks Krelian. ...You're sure giving me a lot of credit for something outside my reach."

"Maybe you do it subconsciously," the indigo-haired man shrugged. "Are you finished for today? I have to head back to Sophia. I could escort you there if you'd like to go."

"Sure, just give me a minute to pour out this dirty water and we can go," said Lacan. He rushed to wipe his brushes and clean up the water and excess paint. He did not keep Krelian waiting long, and soon they were headed back toward the cathedral.

"What do you see in your future, Lacan?" his companion inquired in a serious, but interested tone.

"I-I'm not sure. There's still so much that's undecided. I just know I want to be near Sophia."

"So that's it," Krelian smiled enigmatically, "That's all. I too am searching for the future, Lacan. I can't tell where it's headed, but I will do my best to keep it from controlling me completely. I want to do things that will be true to my own beliefs and feelings. ...Sophia told me that faith can change the world."

"I'm not surprised she said that," Lacan replied.
