[April 29] [Card Captor Sakura] Return
Title: Return
Day/Theme: April 29 / In the garden, like an immortal
Series: Card Captor Sakura
Character/Pairing: Clow
Rating: G
The house was old, even older than he was. It had belonged to many of his ancestors before him; generation after generation of pale Englishmen whose portraits now hung on the manor's halls. No doubt many of them would be horrified to see him move into their house, this man who brought the East with him in his blood.
Clow hadn't been there since his childhood, so long ago that he had lost count of the years. He hadn't liked the place, back then. It was dark and full of wailing ghosts and not at all like China. But now he looked at it with different eyes. There could be beauty here, too, if one only tried to help it a little. It had been abandoned for many years, but it might still have a chance to bloom.
He started with the gardens. As soon as he'd cleaned up rooms for himself and his Guardians, he forgot about the rest of the manor and went directly outside. There was plenty of work to do here, so many things to fix. But he didn't mind; he had all the time in the world. He planted new flowers and healed the trees. Maze and Wood helped him repair the labyrinth that had once graced the entrance. Soon there were colours again, and the birds returned, and even the ghosts calmed down when they realized he wasn't going to tear down the house or anything of the like.
It was a good feeling, knowing he could fix things. It felt almost like payback. They hadn't wanted him in this house, and now he was going to make it more beautiful than ever. It was the greatest joke, the best way to annoy all the ones who had shunned him back in the day. He knew they were watching. And he also knew that, whenever the future Reeds remembered his time on the manor, they would think of an incredible library and the most gorgeous of gardens.
