Kyon found Haruhi sitting in the shadows of the SOS Brigade club-room, late in the evening.

"Is the power out?" Kyon asked.

"Nah," Haruhi said. "I like being in the dark."

Kyon face-palmed. That's a good thing, he thought to himself, since you're always in the dark!!

Haruhi explained herself. "It sets the mood, you know? Everything seems more ominous, as if danger is lurking around every corner, and you never know when disaster will strike."

Kyon shot the oblivious Haruhi a dirty look. As if I didn't already feel that way, he thought, merely by being anywhere near you.
