"The weather can be beastly cold during this time of the year." To her own ears, Mei Chaofeng was never sharp, only straightforward. "I don't suppose you could provide me with warm clothing?"

"My apology for the lack of attention to your well-being - I would bring you a blanket next time. Will that do?"

"Yes, thanks."

Yang Kang surveyed their surroundings critically. "Would you also like me to move you somewhere less prone to leaks and drafts?"

Mei Chaofeng shifted her legs. Either she was growing to be an unobservant dotard, or the boy was becoming less smarmy and more genuinely concerned for her. That this was a ploy to coax extra lessons out of her was, of course, an ever-present likelihood. "That'd be excellent, but it's already quite convenient here."
