A Boy Falling out of the Sky

Hikaru had always thought he could never hate Touya.

He was a moron when it came to social situations and fashion sense, sure--but he was a friend. A rival. He was arguably Hikaru's best friend, considering the things they knew about each other and how much time they spent together. Touya knew of Hikaru’s second-grade crush on Sailor Moon (Hikaru still wasn't sure how that’d come up), and most of their time together involved shouting at each other about Go, but it all counted towards something beyond playing each other in tournaments.

At least, Hikaru had thought so.

Reading Touya's latest interview in Go Weekly had been like a brick to the head. "'Shindou and I are not friends,'" Hikaru read out loud. "What the hell is that, Touya? If you didn't want to be friends, wasn't there a better way to tell me than through a magazine?"

Touya's face was flushed. "I didn't think we were friends!"

Something in Hikaru's chest clenched. He threw down the magazine on the table and pushed back his chair.

"I thought we were dating!" Touya gave him a defensive look.

Hikaru groaned. He could never hate Touya but sometimes he wished otherwise.
