[April 21, 2007][Xenogears] Come to Terms
Title: Come to Terms
Day/Theme: April 21, 2007 love and hatred
Series: Xenogears
Character/Pairing: Billy, Jesse
Rating: PG
Billy just couldn't believe that father of his- coming back into his life as forcefully as ever and making him think he was going to sacrifice his life and being smarter than that and being right. Jessiah Black was one rough and tumble, gun-toting, brute of a man, but boy was he sharp- and strangely understanding. He had seen through the Ethos that whole time, but he had not done more than counsel his son. He could have been rougher, but he saw that he was being rough enough. And though he certainly had been far from anything but a negligent father for those years, he did care, especially for Primera. Billy could only hope that his future behavior would be more responsible and dedicated than his recent past.
It seemed like Jesse was always giving him a hard time. Billy was sure he did it on purpose, poking him with prickles and nettles to make sure he noticed his father and thought about what his father had done for him and how his father was right. The good-natured grin with which Jesse accepted Billy's quick replies appeared to affirm it. He was not an ideal father, but he was all Billy had and so he accepted him. His mother had loved him after all. And Prim liked him. And Billy, as much as it frustrated him, he loved- no, he liked, his father too.
He could only just remember when Jesse was a different man and had taught him how to hold a gun still and steady. His father had been so patient then and explained everything so calmly. Billy had admired him, and, yes, he had certainly loved him. Now it would be too much to admit that. It would be going too far. Billy felt as though he would never be able to claim to really believe anything anymore. He had been so completely misled by Bishop Stone and the rest of the Ethos. He would fight on, but it would take time to work out his true feelings.
And maybe then, Jesse would stop his laughing and stop his drinking for just a moment and see that his son finally knew what was truly right.
