In a way, he had everything he could ask for, and he knew it.
He wasn't just lucky in a materialistic sense, even if he was rich; he lived in a wonderful house, in a place he had chosen for himself. He had the luck of living his life the way he chose to. He had health, and youth of a sort, and all the time in the world. He had a family that loved him – it didn't matter what anyone else said, it was a family. He had magic. He had power. He had all of the future.
All of the future. And it was so, so heavy.
He also had one wish; only one. Just as only one person had the power to grant it. He knew her well, too, better than she could ever imagine.
The catch was, she wouldn't be born until years after he'd died.
