[12 April] [Oban: Star-Racers] "If only...."
Title: "If only...."
Challenge: 12 April - "a beautiful day"
Fandom: Oban: Star-Racers
Characters: Eva "Molly" Wei, Jordan C. Wilde
Rating: G
Warnings: Teenagers and sappiness. 'nuff said.
Spoilers: For the ending.
Notes: First off, I don't own the characters, the genius known as Savin Yeatman-Eiffel does. I still haven't got this edited to the point where I wanted it to be, but apparently my turning eighteen means I now cannot stay up past eleven PM and have no internet priviliges in this house... and my computer's currently dead. So, ah, bear with me here....
Sometimes on the warmest days of spring she could pretend she was on Alwas.
Sometimes in the less temperate regions of his new home, he could pretend he was there with her.
She'd get on the old bicycle she'd bought for the sake of fixing and ride and ride, closing her eyes for moments at a stretch and pretending the whine of the wheels against the pavement was engine noise.
Sometimes he'd go and sit on the edge of the veranda surrounding what had been the Earth Team module, and close his eyes and imagine her sitting next to him.
Sometimes she'd talk to him, wondering if he could hear, wondering if he missed his partner as much as she missed hers.
Sometimes he'd talk to her, knowing she'd never hear what he said, feeling horribly alone without his better half--because that was what she was, right? the other half of a team?--and counting in the back of his mind the heartbeats until the lightshow would dim and he could see her again.
"If you can hear me, Jordan, I still miss you. I'm going to University this fall, I actually got into the engineering program I wanted...."
Finally, one day, he answered her, the number of heartbeats having reached zero.
"Knew you could do it, Molly."
She'd thought that she'd laugh, but somehow that turned into tears.
"What's wrong?"
"This is too good...."
