"Do you want to hear something, Brother Jing?"

"Yes, what is it?"

"Don't sound so enthusiastic yet - you don't know if it's a bad thing or a good thing."

"I - just don't think you're capable of something completely evil."

"All this time and you still believe that? All right, all right, I was just joking. You're too honest for your own good."

"So, er, what is it?"

"On the morning of our wedding day, I had a brief but disturbingly persistent vision of myself fleeing toward the beach and rowing across the water. Away from it all, away from everyone."

"Why? Was there - another man waiting for you?"

"Oh, Brother Jing! There, a little pinch. Start apologizing and I'll just pinch you some more. No, there wasn't anybody else. It was sheer nervousness. A girl's wedding is extremely important for her - a tremendous event."

"It was a huge affair for me too, and for your father, from what I could see. You are his only child, after all."

"It's different for a girl - how should I say it? Her life will never be the same after she gets married, and she knows it too well."

"I'm relieved you didn't run away."

"You wouldn't have been able to catch me if I had, because on water I'm swifter than you are. Which would be sad."

"Why sad? Didn't you want to leave? So why would you want me to catch up with you?"

"You really know nothing about girls, do you?"

"I'm sorry..."

"There, the pinch I promised you! But you should be thankful the weather was lovely and warm, since it made me unable to imagine ruining it for you."
