April 11: Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends.

Title: Lives of Their Own
Day/Theme: April 11: Existence
Series: Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends
Character/Pairing: Mac
Rating: G

It didn’t occur to him often, but when it did, his usual smile would fade and his eye would go a little wider as he took in all the inhabitants. Mac knew all the denizens of Fosters had been born from imaginings, just as Bloo had come from his. He had seen Goo churn out creatures as easily as breathing. It still amazed him.

All the imaginary friends were thoughts given form from the wishes of children. From all the different lives, needs, and minds, the different Friends were born. All of them seemed to be made of what was the best in their creators, or at least what the creator thought they needed. The amazing part was the Friends had their own lives too. That was why they didn’t just fade into nothing when their creators outgrew or forgot them.

How sad would it have been if Wilt or Eduardo or any of the other had simply vanished instead of coming to Foster’s? He couldn’t imagine his own life without them now. What must’ve it been like to have to give them up? He was lucky enough that he hadn’t really had to give up Bloo.

While he thought about that, Madam Foster had stopped on one of the many stairwells above him. She watched him with much the same expression that he watched the Friends. Mr. Herriman came up behind her and set a gloved hand on her shoulder, which she leaned on fondly. The big bunny wouldn’t exist without her. The others wouldn’t exist without their own children, and how empty all their lives would be without that bond.
