[April, 9 2007] [Revolutionary Girl Utena] I'm Here

Title: I'm Here
Day/Theme: April 9, Silent Passage
Series: Revolutionary Girl Utena
Character/Pairing: Nanami, Touga
Rating: PG

It's two in the morning when Nanami crawls into his bedroom. Literally, she slides her fingers underneath the door and pulls it open, crawling across the carpet on her knees.

Touga draws long breaths, his chest rising and falling and barely visible.

She could crawl into the bed with him and drape his arm around her. She could say she'd had a nightmare and needed her big brother to protect her from everything, but she isn't a child anymore.

The Touga in her mind would pull her close and kiss her forehead, telling her everything will be okay, Nanami. I'm here now. This Touga soothes her and she's at the foot of the bed, hands beneath the covers and feeling his warmth.

The curtains swell and the cold air dots her skin with goosebumps. Maybe she has to get into the bed with him to keep him warm. He could catch a cold, or worse. She could protect him. It's okay, big brother. I'm here now. I'm here and touching your calves and knees and keeping you warm.

His chest still moves slowly and she crawls to the side of the bed, hand over his heart, pressing gently, trying to feel it beat.

Big brother. I'm here now, don't you see? Making sure you're sleeping well like a sister should.

His hair spills over the pillow and almost touches the edge of the mattress. She rests her head there and watches her hand rise and fall against his chest. The breeze hits her again and a thousand holes in her skin open up and Touga bleeds into every one of them.

Hand on his belly. She could kiss his shoulder.

Rug burns on her knees and the door closes quietly.

---

He doesn't move, even when her fingers graze underneath his toes. He times his breathing so that it's even.

His eyes don't flutter. His muscles stay limp.

He lets her be every bit of the fool she is.
