Henry wonders if this is what it's like to be born. To be pushed out from somewhere safe to somewhere you don't want to be. Except nowhere is safe anymore.
What would happen if he just stopped here, let everything that was going evil and wrong go there without him? Just wait here to die, which seems inevitable in any case. In this passage it's silent, and the walls hold him, and there are no monsters.
He keeps pushing himself along though, because there's an end somewhere ahead, and those being born come out whether they like it or not.
