"I've met the boy whose mother we rescued after she gave birth to him." Hua Zheng sounded simultaneously out of breath and businesslike.

"And?"

"I think he's kind of dumb. He doesn't catch my meaning at once, and he looks contrite every time. Like he knows he's slow but can't help it."

"He's a very diligent goatherd, though."

"The goats wouldn't know any better. Is he good at wrestling? He's almost as big as you."

"Yes, he's good. He is also a loyal, generous person - wait until you get to know him more."

"Umm. If he's dumb, does that mean he can be ordered around?"

Tolui looked stern. "Don't get all princessy on him, you hear?"

"I won't! But I just had this great idea. When I want to go for a stroll he can go with me, so Father can't say it's dangerous for me to be out there all by myself."

"If he's as dumb as you make him out to be, he might bore you."

"If he's as good-hearted as you make him out to be, he won't be offended with me for trying to teach him to think faster. Er, will he?"
