Not all flowers were beautiful. Sometimes they weren’t even brightly colored. Sometimes all they were was what they were made for: A vehicle for pollen. A landing pad for an invader bent on harvest.
I don’t want to be what I’m for, she thought. Familiar unease trickled into her meditation like a cold breeze through her cloak. I don’t want to be it. I don’t want to do it.
It should be galling, one of her emotions whispered, to lock her true power away like this. More galling, she hissed back at it, to know that my true power is not my own, but HIS. She let her frustration and anger go cold and settle back over her heart in a layer of ice. Let the chill keep the blossoming power withered. Let it never bloom.
