The river is back. Chihiro fought for it, though her voice was small, but someone heard, and another, and then too many to be denied. She smiled to see the shabby buildings razed, and the sidewalk taken up, and well after she grew to be a woman the river was back.
It winds through concrete now, and she tells herself it is not the same river so perhaps it has no spirit, but she still hopes.
The town has another name for it, but she has named it Kohaku River, and sometimes she is certain she can hear his voice.
