[April 4, 2007][Suikoden] A Village to Call Home
Title: A Village to Call Home
Day/Theme: April 4, 2007 under the shade of flowers
Series: Suikoden
Character/Pairing: Ted, Sierra
Rating: G
Author's comment: I've been working on a series of comics where Ted and Sierra have a short run-in while they're both on the road and this is on the same sort of topic, transitioning into the next set of happenings for Ted.
Ted and Sierra parted ways under a flowering peach tree. They had just received a tip from a blond girl who Sierra had first encountered on her way down. She would have to double her speed and hurry on to Harmonia's northeast mountains to track the thing she sought. Ted was in no hurry to walk into the theocratic nation, with its strong curiosity for True Runes- dodging the gaze of Windy was enough trouble on its own. The last thing he needed was Lady Istoria setting her sights on his rune.
"It has been nice, Ted," the vampire said. She nodded to him, then turned and walked away, leaving as abruptly as she had met him.
"Y-yeah," Ted stuttered as she was already going, shrinking away on the dirt path, "It was pretty good...as far as these things go." A cool breeze ruffled the pink blossoms above, but the petals held tight and did not blow away. The village was quiet and the road that passed through it was small. Ted wondered if this would be a good place to settle down for a while. He couldn't be on the road constantly- his general fatigue, dirtiness, and lack of funds showed him that. He decided to walk around the village's peach and plum trees and take a better look at the people and their homes.
They were less than cottages, but more than huts, built with painted planks. There was no inn- meaning less reason for passersby to stay long. There was a smithy and a general shop and that was all, just fields and homes. So where would he live? Was there an empty place he could move into or would he find a kind family to take him in? And what kind of work would he do? In the past he had been a sailor and a hunter, but he was a patient learner, willing to pick up any trade that would support him.
Ted meandered over to the smithy, where a hammer clanked rhythmically against a sheet of hot metal. A blond man, young, but obviously quite strong, was bending the iron into the slight curve of a shovel. He glanced at the visitor to his workplace only momentarily before focusing his sight on finishing his work, then dousing the hot metal in a trough of water. He left it there and dipped the tongs in beside it, approaching Ted. "What brings you here, neighbor?" he asked, a few drops of sweat sliding down his fire-blushed brow.
