"You seem grumpier than usual today," Haruhi said to Kyon.

Kyon was staring through the club-room windows. "I've been thinking," he said in a distant voice, "about all the things I'd be doing now if you hadn't taken over my life."

"If you really want to go," Haruhi said quietly, "then I won't stop you."

"Actually," Kyon said, "I think I'd rather stay with you. And that's what worries me, more than anything else."

Haruhi smiled, and patted Kyon's head, with an odd mix of condescension and affection. "You're a complicated little man," she said. "I like that about you."
